Shropshire firms urged to enter first King’s Awards

May 30, 2023

The first-ever King’s Awards for Enterprise will be launched at two special events next month – and Shropshire businesses interested in entering are being urged to attend.

The launch events will be hosted by the Shropshire Lieutenancy at Origins at Shrewsbury College on June 9 and at Telford College on June 16, both from 8am-10am.

HM Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner, the King’s representative in the county, said: “As the first enterprise awards of the King’s reign, this year’s recipients will carve out their own little bit of history.

“We have some fabulous and innovative businesses in this county and I hope many of them will apply. The launch events are intended to inspire companies to enter and to give owners and managers the confidence to put together an application. The awards raise the profile of businesses and the whole county alike, and I look forward to seeing many of you take part.”

Previous award winners I2R and Protolabs will be speaking about the experience at the Telford & Wrekin launch and Stallion AI and Jesmonite will speak at the event in Shrewsbury.

The Lord-Lieutenant added: “These are the most prestigious awards available to UK businesses and are designed to recognise and encourage outstanding achievements in innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility.

“As well as being allowed to use the award logo on your marketing materials for five years, award winners receive an official certificate and crystal trophy and an invitation to a royal reception.

“Many thanks to both Shropshire Council and Telford & Wrekin Council for their support with the launch events, as well as our two brilliant colleges, of course!”

Advice and support on the entry process is available through the Shropshire Lieutenancy. For more information about entering the awards, and to register for the launch events, visit www.kaeshropshire.co.uk/

The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership has now ceased trading and transferred all its functions to Shropshire Council working with Telford & Wrekin Council and Herefordshire Council, in line with the UK Government's plans for devolution.

The Marches LEP was established in 2011 and hands over an impressive legacy from its 13-year life. In that time the LEP invested over £196m in projects across the Marches, securing in excess of £100m of match funding and supported more than 66,000 business interactions.

The schemes supported have made tangible differences to local communities, increasing skills, creating jobs and improving the physical appearance of many towns.

We would like to thank all the LEP Board Members who have given their time freely over the life of the LEP, as well as all the staff who worked for the LEP over the years. We also want to thank our delivery partners, local education providers and local, regional and national stakeholders who helped us achieve so much.

The Marches Growth Hub will continue to support businesses and will be managed by Shropshire Council, supported by Telford and Wrekin and Herefordshire Councils. Each of the three Local Authorities will also continue to provide direct business support locally. Details of this support will be available through the Marches Growth Hub website and from the Local Authorities directly. The Marches Careers Hub will continue to be delivered and will be managed by Shropshire Council, supported by Telford & Wrekin and Herefordshire Councils. Website: www.marchescareershub.co.uk | email: info@marchescareershub.co.uk
