Your chance to play a part in deciding priority schemes to benefit from £105m
The search was today launched for members of a committee which will play a vital part in deciding where European funding in the Marches should be focused.
A new programme of European funding is being launched this year – with Local Enterprise Partnerships being given responsibility by central Government for deciding where investment should be focused.
The Marches region has been allocated approximately £105 million of EU funding for projects being developed and delivered between 2014 and 2020.
Now a recruitment process is being launched for members to join a European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF) committee to oversee the programme and projects for an initial three year term.
The Marches LEP, the private sector-led organisation working in partnership with the local authorities of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, has developed an ESIF strategy which sets out priority
areas where this funding should be directed.
Roger Phillips, Chairman of the LEP Funding Forum, said: “The ESIFcommittee will have a strategic role and be involved in prioritising investments, choosing between options and deciding courses of action in cases of poor performance for EU-funded projects within the Marches.
“Made of up 17 members, the committee will include representatives from the business, education and skills, rural and voluntary and community sectors, the three local authorities and a representative from the LEP.
The European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and European Agricultural Rural Development Fund form the total allocation and key areas which funded projects must support including research and Innovation; SME competitiveness, employment and skills, social inclusion and the low carbon economy.

The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership has now ceased trading and transferred all its functions to Shropshire Council working with Telford & Wrekin Council and Herefordshire Council, in line with the UK Government's plans for devolution.

The Marches LEP was established in 2011 and hands over an impressive legacy from its 13-year life. In that time the LEP invested over £196m in projects across the Marches, securing in excess of £100m of match funding and supported more than 66,000 business interactions.

The schemes supported have made tangible differences to local communities, increasing skills, creating jobs and improving the physical appearance of many towns.

We would like to thank all the LEP Board Members who have given their time freely over the life of the LEP, as well as all the staff who worked for the LEP over the years. We also want to thank our delivery partners, local education providers and local, regional and national stakeholders who helped us achieve so much.

The Marches Growth Hub will continue to support businesses and will be managed by Shropshire Council, supported by Telford and Wrekin and Herefordshire Councils. Each of the three Local Authorities will also continue to provide direct business support locally. Details of this support will be available through the Marches Growth Hub website and from the Local Authorities directly.
