Director post among new roles created by Marches LEP
The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership is creating five new posts, including a director role, to support its work driving economic growth in the region.
The private sector-led LEP, led by Telford businessman Graham Wynn OBE, is tasked with creating the conditions for prosperity and sustainable job creation in Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
The posts, which also include a partnership manager, two project officers and an administrative officer, are the first to be created by the LEP since its launch in 2011 and reflect the wider remit given to LEPs by Government following the Heseltine Review.
Lord Heseltine, in his report ‘No Stone Unturned in Pursuit of Growth’, recommended decentralising economic powers from central government to local areas and leaders through LEPs. He said LEPs were best placed to understand and to address the opportunities and obstacles to growth in their own communities.
LEP Chairman Graham Wynn said: “Initially, LEPs were developed as strategic bodies, led by private sector business people working in partnership with the public sector to drive growth.
“The partnership way of working has not changed, but in the last 18 months there has been a considerable shift in the roles and responsibilities passed to LEPs, moving towards delivering work to promote economic growth and also deciding on priorities for millions of pounds of Government funding.
“We are a stream-lined partnership and we will continue to be so – but these core team appointments are necessary if we are to progress projects and programmes of work which ultimately benefit both the people living in the Marches and the businesses operating here.”
The LEP wishes to recruit a strong strategic-thinker, equally comfortable in a hands-on role and possessing sound political and commercial acumen for the LEP Director role.
Two project officers will be delivering the LEP’s Inward Investment work or supporting the development and delivery of capital projects, including those in the region’s Strategic Economic Plan and European Structural and Investment Funds Strategy. Posts will be based at LEP offices in Hereford, Shrewsbury or Telford.
Job descriptions and person specifications can be found below and application forms and further information is available on the Jobs section of the Shropshire Council website at www.shropshire.gov.uk Closing date for applications is August 1.
