Land Deal set to create more industrial units at T54

September 26, 2018

Telford & Wrekin Council has let a contract for the construction of two industrial units at T54, the borough’s premier employment site, already home to Magna International, Polytec and AXYZ Automation.
The contractors, Morris Properties, are due to start on site in September with the completion of the units programmed for the end of March 2019.
The units have been built in response to the high demand in Telford and are 30,000 sq ft and 17,000 sq ft respectively including high quality office space internally and external yards and parking.
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Economic Development, said: “This is a case of the council providing speculative units to cater for high demand in the market.
“All our units are fully let and there is a lack of this type of stock in the borough so it makes sense for us to step in where developers are reluctant or unable to do so.
“T54 is in a great location, well positioned for Telford’s excellent transport links and only a few miles along the M54 from the Jaguar Land Rover plant at i54.
“The site was brought forward as a result of the council’s unique Land Deal in partnership with Homes England and the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership.
“This has seen industrial sites owned by Homes England developed by the council, with infrastructure being installed so the sites are ready to be occupied. It has resulted in significant inward investment and job creation across the borough as well as building new homes.”
Karl Tupling, General Manager for Homes England in the Midlands, said: “The investment into T54 will offer new jobs for local people, opportunities that have only been made possible as a result of the partnership that the Land Deal provides which will continue to boost what is already a key employment site in the borough.”
The construction project will be managed by biT, the Council’s award winning in-house property development consultancy team.

The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership has now ceased trading and transferred all its functions to Shropshire Council working with Telford & Wrekin Council and Herefordshire Council, in line with the UK Government's plans for devolution.

The Marches LEP was established in 2011 and hands over an impressive legacy from its 13-year life. In that time the LEP invested over £196m in projects across the Marches, securing in excess of £100m of match funding and supported more than 66,000 business interactions.

The schemes supported have made tangible differences to local communities, increasing skills, creating jobs and improving the physical appearance of many towns.

We would like to thank all the LEP Board Members who have given their time freely over the life of the LEP, as well as all the staff who worked for the LEP over the years. We also want to thank our delivery partners, local education providers and local, regional and national stakeholders who helped us achieve so much.

The Marches Growth Hub will continue to support businesses and will be managed by Shropshire Council, supported by Telford and Wrekin and Herefordshire Councils.
