Diversity Call for Shropshire Business Board Applications

November 10, 2020

Shropshire Business Board is opening its doors to applications, as part of a proactive drive to best reflect the business community it serves.

With over 20 Members, the Board is looking to increase its numbers by engaging with local business owners from the widest possible ethnic, age and gender perspectives. Their businesses can be any size but must have an SY postcode. This is a great opportunity to really make a difference for your sector.

“We’re proud to have a strong and vibrant Board” explained Shropshire Business Board’s Chair Paul Bennett. “However, we are aware that we serve a dynamic business community which isn’t wholly represented on our Board as yet and would like to address this by growing and diversifying this group of business leaders. This will help make us more aware of issues and opportunities facing those particular businesses and sectors in Shropshire”.

Board Meetings are currently held monthly and are remote during the Covid-19 pandemic, but face-to-face at Member-owned locations around Shropshire more usually. All members contribute their time and knowledge as volunteers and will be expected to engage with at least one SBB subgroup.

Applications forms can be requested by emailing shropshire-businessboard@outlook.com and the intention is to have the new cohort ready to attend the first meeting in 2021.

The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership has now ceased trading and transferred all its functions to Shropshire Council working with Telford & Wrekin Council and Herefordshire Council, in line with the UK Government's plans for devolution.

The Marches LEP was established in 2011 and hands over an impressive legacy from its 13-year life. In that time the LEP invested over £196m in projects across the Marches, securing in excess of £100m of match funding and supported more than 66,000 business interactions.

The schemes supported have made tangible differences to local communities, increasing skills, creating jobs and improving the physical appearance of many towns.

We would like to thank all the LEP Board Members who have given their time freely over the life of the LEP, as well as all the staff who worked for the LEP over the years. We also want to thank our delivery partners, local education providers and local, regional and national stakeholders who helped us achieve so much.

The Marches Growth Hub will continue to support businesses and will be managed by Shropshire Council, supported by Telford and Wrekin and Herefordshire Councils. Each of the three Local Authorities will also continue to provide direct business support locally. Details of this support will be available through the Marches Growth Hub website and from the Local Authorities directly.
