Cllr Hitchiner's alternate on The Marches LEP Board is Cllr Ellie Chowns. Cllr David Hitchiner was appointed to The Marches LEP Board following his election as leader of Herefordshire Council in May 2019. A qualified solicitor and chartered secretary with a Law Degree from the University of Birmingham, Cllr Hitchiner worked in the City of London advising on banking and insolvency law until 1984. From 1985 to 1990 he was a partner in Anthony Collins solicitors in Birmingham.

About Cllr David Hitchiner

Throughout the 1990s, David was a commercial lawyer for Cadbury Schweppes, which included three years working in Texas. Upon returning to the UK, he spent more than three years as deputy company secretary with Hereford firm Bulmers, playing a key role in setting up the Bulmer Foundation and was the company’s nominee on the Herefordshire Community Foundation.

He then spent 14 years working for a privately owned US engineering business in Droitwich. In this role he took on directorships of companies in the UK as well as Belgium, Germany, Spain, Turkey, and Russia. He most recently worked for nearly two years with a local satellite telecommunications company. He was a governor of Wrekin College before going to Texas, and Hereford Cathedral School since his return. He also served as an advisor to Concern Universal, which was at the time a Hereford based charity. He is now chair of Caplor Horizons which is a charity aimed at inspiring and equipping leaders for a sustainable future.

Since moving back to the UK from Texas in 2000, David has lived in Clehonger, Hereford, with his wife, raising four children together. He enjoys walks in Herefordshire’s beautiful countryside.

Cllr Chowns acts as Cllr David Hitchiner’s alternate on The Marches LEP board. Councillor Ellie Chowns is Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for Environment, Economy and Skills and group leader for the Green Party.
