Telford Employer Skills Event Promises to Reach-Out to Local Millennials

September 25, 2017

Telford Business Board has announced a partnership with the Marches LEP which will see it host a Skills Round Table event aimed at developing an important link between local training providers and employers within the region.
The event runs from 0915 on Wednesday 4 October, at The University of Wolverhampton’s Priorslee Campus, and will see a number of local employers and training providers, share their forthcoming plans, to help better prepare young people for the world of work and businesses.
The initiative has set out to provide a platform for training providers to showcase all of the offers that are readily available for businesses, who are looking to build and maintain a highly skilled workforce. And, it will give employers the opportunity to share some of the recruitment challenges they are faced with when they’re looking to employ young people.
Paul Hinkins, Chair of Telford Business Board said: “We are thrilled to support this initiative, it’s hugely important that local training providers and businesses work together. It’s vital that we connect with young millennials and make sure that they have all the essential skills that are needed for the business world, as they are our future workforce.”
Guest speakers from the local colleges will include Ian Oakes Vice-Principal from the University of Wolverhampton and Graham Guest, Principal at Telford College, who will discuss the importance of engaging both students and employers for the future.
Details about the apprenticeship offer including higher level apprenticeships, the apprenticeship levy, and the implications for employers in the local area will also be covered. Click here to book your place.

The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership has now ceased trading and transferred all its functions to Shropshire Council working with Telford & Wrekin Council and Herefordshire Council, in line with the UK Government's plans for devolution.

The Marches LEP was established in 2011 and hands over an impressive legacy from its 13-year life. In that time the LEP invested over £196m in projects across the Marches, securing in excess of £100m of match funding and supported more than 66,000 business interactions.

The schemes supported have made tangible differences to local communities, increasing skills, creating jobs and improving the physical appearance of many towns.

We would like to thank all the LEP Board Members who have given their time freely over the life of the LEP, as well as all the staff who worked for the LEP over the years. We also want to thank our delivery partners, local education providers and local, regional and national stakeholders who helped us achieve so much.

The Marches Growth Hub will continue to support businesses and will be managed by Shropshire Council, supported by Telford and Wrekin and Herefordshire Councils. Each of the three Local Authorities will also continue to provide direct business support locally. Details of this support will be available through the Marches Growth Hub website and from the Local Authorities directly.
