Businesses from across the Marches are being invited to the launch of The Careers & Enterprise Company’s “Enterprise Advisor Network”. The launch takes place at Enginuity in Coalbrookdale, Telford on Tuesday October 11 2016 at 4pm.
Aimed at building a robust careers and enterprise programme which will help young people think about their future careers and focus on developing their workplace skills, the network is being made possible by volunteer advisers with support from an Enterprise Co-ordinator.
These senior strategic business people from across the public, private and third sectors are invited to become Enterprise Advisers with the aim being that they provide counsel to school and college heads on how to engage local businesses in the development of careers and enterprise plans.
Telford & Wrekin is the first area in the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) region to take part in this prestigious programme and the launch event is an opportunity for any interested business to find out more about the programme and how they can help schools and colleges to navigate the fast-changing careers landscape and give students the best chance of reaching their full potential.
Speaking of the important difference that business representatives can make to the aspirations of young people, Paul Hinkins, Deputy Chair of the Marches LEP said:
“Careers guidance is invaluable but only really comes in to its own when young people are given access to someone with real life experience from the business world. The work being carried out by The Careers & Enterprise Company is instrumental in making this happen: it helps employers to get involved in schools; supports schools and colleges in their planning of careers and enterprise activity; and ensures that best practice is shared amongst all concerned parties.
“The impact that the volunteer business advisers will have on the young people that they spend time with cannot be underestimated and any business interested in getting involved should attend this event so that the benefit can be experienced as widely as possible across Telford & Wrekin.”
During the launch event, there will be presentations made by the Careers & Enterprise Company; the Marches LEP; Telford & Wrekin Council and CapGemini.
Anyone interested in attending to find out how they could get involved as a volunteer business advisor should contact kim.hodgetts@telford.gov.uk

The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership has now ceased trading and transferred all its functions to Shropshire Council working with Telford & Wrekin Council and Herefordshire Council, in line with the UK Government's plans for devolution.

The Marches LEP was established in 2011 and hands over an impressive legacy from its 13-year life. In that time the LEP invested over £196m in projects across the Marches, securing in excess of £100m of match funding and supported more than 66,000 business interactions.

The schemes supported have made tangible differences to local communities, increasing skills, creating jobs and improving the physical appearance of many towns.

We would like to thank all the LEP Board Members who have given their time freely over the life of the LEP, as well as all the staff who worked for the LEP over the years. We also want to thank our delivery partners, local education providers and local, regional and national stakeholders who helped us achieve so much.

The Marches Growth Hub will continue to support businesses and will be managed by Shropshire Council, supported by Telford and Wrekin and Herefordshire Councils. Each of the three Local Authorities will also continue to provide direct business support locally. Details of this support will be available through the Marches Growth Hub website and from the Local Authorities directly.
